Sam Donaldson Hits Lewes

Sam Donaldson, former ABC News Commentator
I work at a small hotel in the little coastal town of Lewes, Delaware.  One would think I was in a backwater where nothing happens.  One would be wrong.  A LOT happens in Lewes.

Of course I can't talk too much about the guests who check into our hotel.  Maybe that gossip is fodder for a book in the future.  But here is the latest that happened in our little town of Lewes.  A blogger buddy sent me this information.

Sam Donaldson, the former ABC news reporter was pulled over for drunk driving.  Sam, how could you?

I wonder what hotel he was staying at.  After all, we are THE HOTEL of destination in Lewes, just saying.

  2. I just can't figure it out. You drink, you drive, you get caught. Of course, I guess he can afford. I sure can't, so I don't do!

    Peace <3

    1. Jay,

There are many times I would like to have just one drink but I dare not, especially in the Lewes/Rehoboth Beach area. The police down here are very vigilant which they should be. There is absolutely no excuse for drunk driving. Earlier this year we lost a much loved member of our community to a drunk driver. Driving and drinking, not worth the risk.

    2. Our ABC stores now have liquors reps offering tastings in the stores. They swear that ABC doesn't promote drinking, just sells it for the state. Yet they GIVE it to you at the door! I always decline, because with my luck, I'd hit a checkpoint, they'd smell the 1/2 shot from the tasting and as clumsy and off balance as I am even when I'm sober, I'd fail the field sobriety test, then I'd wind up face down on some yucky pavement being frisked or Tasered or handcuffed and hauled off. Not worth it.

    3. Jay,
Even if you have only one drink, the smell on your breath would be enough to earn you a DUI here in Lewes, guaranteed. I drink a lot of iced tea unless someone else is driving.

    4. I'll admit to a beer or two with dinner (not English pints), that's with food and a lot of water. The thing that probably deters me more than the danger factor is the cost. It's been estimated that in VA, a DUI will cost you about $10,000 before it's all over, given the price of DUI defense attorneys (don't even think about showing up in court without one), the fees the court charges for alcohol rehab and the no-start thingie on your car, not to mention the inconvenience and expense of no driving for at least some period of time from the time you're booked until they finally get a restricted license, then there's the cancelled insurance that will skyrocket to about 10x your normal rate. Mine, with full coverage and comprehensive, is so dang cheap it's not funny...I can't jeopardize that!

    5. Jay,

Yes, I didn't even think about the cost. Big time! Just not worth it to drink and drive. Too much risk.
