The New Seven Wonders of the World

I don't usually abscond with thoughtful postings from other sources but this time I'm making an exception.  A former classmate of mine sent this list of the seven new wonders of the world to me by e-mail this morning. I think she is exactly right.  What do you think?

    1. the dogs' mother,
I do too. That's why I made an exception and posted it. Well worth remembering, to love and be loved, the most wonderful thing in the world. Without that, what do you have? Nothing.

  2. Fantastic, and I wholeheartedly agree. The real wonders of life are within ourselves - what we learn, absorb, and experience, and - most importantly - how we interact and care and share with others.

    1. Exactly Jon, the beauty is within us and how we interact and share with others.

  3. that was lovely; thank you fro sharing it
    However I can think #8 and #9 - #8 being a cup of tea; #9 I shan't write lest there is scandal.

Oh, I know what #9 is. I thought the same thing. :)

  5. It would be churlish to quibble at any item on the girl's list, though one can certainly add to them in the same vein.

Can't help noticing that in the first list only one item is not man-constructed, though I recognise it's a composite list, only made up of those which received the most votes - hence no Niagara Falls, no Antarctica, no Amazon rainforest - before it disappears entirely - no Himalayas and so on. (St Peter's Basilica? Maybe, but I wonder if they really meant the Sistine Chapel ceiling. And Panama Canal? Perhaps, but..... One can go on forever.)

    1. Ray,
To me the one wonder above all is love. Without that what do we have? Whether it be love of pets (as your cats) or another person, love surpasses all. Without love I wouldn't want to live.

    2. Thanks for mentioning my deep affection for my pets, Ron. Although it's definitely true, must admit that at this (very?) late stage of my life I'm feeling a bit cheated in never having experienced what others call 'true love' with another human being. Please don't say "Don't give up hope!" 'cos I haven't - but such sentiments, although meant well, only serve to underline more what it is that I've never experienced

    3. Ray,
I am so sorry that you haven't experienced true love. Some people say "How do you know when you experience it?" I say (from experience "You'll know because it hits you like a ton of bricks." When I was young (teenager and early twenties) I feared that I would never know true love then Bill came into my life. His love has sustained me for the past fifty years And then this late in life I have found another true love. This is a different love but just as strong. I am convinced Ray that you will experience true love before you make your exit. But in the meantime I know those cats love you, and that's no small thing.

    4. Thanks, Ron. I'm not exactly bereft at not having experienced true love with another human (apart from family - but, of course that's another thing entirely). I suppose it's a case of 'what you've never had you never miss' - though I do often muse on what that feeling can be like.
You know how I love my cats, though they're both getting old and once they've gone I wouldn't want to get any replacement at my advanced age and be fearful of my leaving them before their own time has come. But again, as with family, it's not quite the same as what you're referring to. B

Yes, a nice way to start off the new week. Now, my next posting I will return to my usual bitch and complaining. :)
