Sunday in Rehoboth Beach

Did you check the temperatures today in Rehoboth Beach?  Sixty-eight degrees!  Wow! Man oh man.

I live ten miles straight up Route One (the "infamous" Route One which is usually a parking lot in the summertime) from Rehoboth Beach.  Well, on such a mild day as today was, how could I not take a drive down the almost deserted Route One and take a stroll on the boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach?  Sure, it was a bit windy today but the temperatures . . . . mild and comfortable.  And it seems that I wasn't the only one to take advantage of the unusually mild January temps . . . I had plenty of company on the boardwalk.

Since in a few days I'll be on the other side of the continent I thought I would take this short video of me standing on this side of the continent, the Atlantic Ocean.  Look for my video next week standing on the other side of the country, the Pacific Ocean.  How cool is the times we live?  How cool is this time of my life?  Life just doesn't get any better than it is now for me folks.  Now to brace myself for that six hour plane flight.

  1. I've discovered in your 'arrangements' for me to tell the blog-world you have finally put out and dropped dead you did NOT leave me your life insurance policy #, you know, the one on which I am the beneficiary. I need this at once, or you can't go to CA, lest there is this crisis.

    1. Dr. Spo,
I don't' have a life insurance policy. I do have travel insurance with AAA which will expire shortly after my trip. I'm not renewing it because they have cancelled it and have put in some new fan dangled policy which will cost me more and I'm just not going to go with it. If I should not reach my destination contact Bill. All the "stuff" is in my office at home. I have one of those cheapo folders that say "Making Things Easy For My Family". All my pertinent information is there. But I do plan on coming back unless God has other plans for me. And I'm not even religious (unless I'm in a dangerous situation).

  2. Ron,
I'm sure you enjoyed the spring like weather, it hit 75 here in Virginia Beach area. Tomorrow it will be back to normal, mid forties and lucky you, leaving on January 7 you avoid the coldest day of the year, at least here with a high expected not to exceed 28 degrees, overnight temps in the teens. I left Florida to move here and I figured that I was far enough south to avoid extreme cold. Well, for all intents and purposes average temps in this area are in the mid forties to fifty this time of the year with polar blasts occasionally. We do avoid snow most of the years and what little we do get usually disappears within a couple of days. Still though..........
I got off track. Just wanted to wish you again a safe and enjoyable trip. As you say, life doesn't get any better for you than right now, and after the last couple of years you definitely deserve a break.

    1. Jack,
Oh it's going to be cold when I leave on Wednesday. I even hear there will be some snow in Philly (1" or more). I'm just hoping I don't have Bill's cold by Wednesday of run into snow. My plane ticket is non-refundable.
Hey Jack, I don't mind you "getting off track" with your comments. When Pat and I talk on FaceTime, we kid each other about how often we get off track. It's all cool. Thanks for the good wishes for a safe trip. And you're right, life doesn't get any better for me than it is right now. And I know it.

  3. Ron, Thanks so much for the trip to the beach on your side! I wish you could have seen my smile. I can't wait to see one from my side! Looks like I will be headed to your side of the beach next month, or I am really hoping too. For years I wrote to kids with cancer and sadly Austin after surviving for five years cancer free ended up with the worst brain tumor due to his previous treatment. He is doing well for now, but the long term does not look good. So hopefully around Valentines day I will be visiting his family and taking them to Myrtle Beach, one of Austin's favorite places. Have to say prices are right that time of year, there is no cheap time on the coast out here. So keep your fingers crossed for me that this works out, I missed to many opportunities to meet the kids I wrote to when I was to busy working.

Forgot to give you one of my other packing tips, though at this late date it probably won't work for you. I use vacuum storage bags to shrink down my clothes when packing. It only works though if you have access to a vacuum before your return flight.

I know you are going to have a wonderful time on your vacation and I might be almost as excited for you as you are!

    1. Cindy,
I won't be taking that many clothes to vacuum pack. I'm taking Pat' advice and traveling light. This is a challenge for me because usually I take way too many clothes that I never wear. Hard to break old habits.
I'm sorry to hear about the kid with the brain tumor. So much suffering in the world today and people's lives cut short. That's one reason I do when I can. We never know when our time is up. So far I've been extremely lucky to have gotten this far. I am so thankful.

  4. Hi Ron, Wow that's 68F warmer that it was here today on the great frozen plains! I think you'll have a jolly good time out in California. Like I've said I've been out there several times, lots of eye candy to look at..The beaches out there are a real trip I hope you have warm days to go to the beach. You also have to check out Randy's Donuts. Be sure to take lots of pictures. Randy in NEB.

    1. Randy,
That's 68 degree weather didn't last long. It's 37 degrees now and by Wednesday the temps will be down to 16 degrees. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't snow the day I leave. The past couple of weeks we've been having a lot of rain. Thank goodness that wasn't snow. I know I'm rolling the dice by planning a trip in January. Hopefully I'll get lucky with this trip. Looking forward to some warm days on the beach in California.

  5. Where you are is probably less hostile, weatherwise, than it looks here, Ron, and it appears decidedly Wintery. Have a pleasant 'transit' - and we'll see you on t'other side.

    1. Ray,
I'm looking forward to seeing the Pacific Ocean. I've never seen it before. When I was in San Francisco in 1979 I saw San Francisco Bay, which I don't think was the same thing.
See you on the "other side" Ray!
