Ron Meets the Pacific Ocean

The past couple of days I've posted sad news on this blog.  But life goes on.  Here is the video I promised of me meeting the Pacific Ocean.  Remember a few weeks back I posted a video of me at Rehoboth Beach meeting the Atlantic Ocean?  Well, maybe you don't but take my word for it I posted it.  At that time I promised that I would make a matching video of me on the other side of the continent.  Well, here it is folks!  Ron meets the Pacific Ocean.

Pat and I, during our recent ten day stay in Los Angeles, took a ride out to the Santa Monica beach at the end of our second (?) day, arriving just in time for the sunset.  A sunset that we never see here on the East Coast.  Wow.  And I did take some beautiful sunset pictures too.  In fact, a few minutes after taking this video we drove to the Santa Monica Pier but couldn't get on to take a photo.  Seems they have that pier all monetized for the tourists and we didn't feel like being monetized at that time.

So here you are folks, the Ron and Pat Show on the Santa Monica Beach, we meet the Pacific Ocean.  Very cool!

  1. Ron,

What a happy video! The waves are even bigger when you are in my area, as well as the coast line being very dramatic. I know you and Pat will enjoy many more vacations in California!

    1. Cindy,
I hope to meet you some day in person, maybe next year when Pat and I again visit California. We'll include you in on one of our "Ron and Pat" videos.

    2. Ron,

I would love that and might be up to a flight down south. Then if Pat doesn't want to join you at Universal Studios or Disneyland I could join you there. If you ever decide to come North I know you would love it too, our coast is one you don't want to dip your toes in, but it is spectacular! Plus we have lots of good wine up here.

    3. Cindy,
Pat will do the Universal Tour if I have to force him (it won't take too much - smile). We meant to go up the coast of California this time but time just ran out. We plan to do it next year so keep a date open for us in January.

  2. Pat and you are just like kids and this video put a big smile on my face. Just in case commenters read my comment and have never met you, I just want to write that "Pat and Ron are the nicest people".

    1. Nadege,
Pat and I truly have a lot of fun together. We are ilke a couple of kids. Old men in years, yes, but kids at heart. Pat has taken to calling these videos "The Ron and Pat Show." We will be back next year; same time, same place. Where do you want to do lunch this time?

    2. I took a friend to a vegan restaurant yesterday but she tells me that I absolutely have to go to "Real food daily" (they are on Facebook). That is where I am taking you next year!

  3. Hey, Ron - it just wouldn't be a visit to the ocean if you didn't get your feet wet!
I've always maintained that the Pacific Ocean is bluer than the Atlantic. I've been told by reliable sources, however, that it's only wetter.

    1. Jon,
The Pacific Ocean did look different to me, having only seen the Atlantic Ocean my whole life. Bluer? I think so. Had a different, "big" feel to it too. The Atlantic Ocean, wherever I've seen it over the years seems a grayer blue, murkier. And the waves definitely aren't bigger. What I really liked though was the sunset on the horizon of the Pacific Ocean. That's something we never see here. Only the sunrise, which is pretty spectacular but not the same as the sunset, sunsets always being my favorite time of day (for some unexplained reason "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me" he says).

  4. Ron - I remember that so well. Actually it was the Sunday of the Golden Globe Awards - we passed thru crowded streets of fans awaiting celebrities. It was then that we thought we were discovered but only to find out about the real event taking place.

  6. I have only seen the Pacific from the air, flying into LAX only to walk across the tarmac and get onto a puddlejumper to Palm Springs where it is hot hot hot in the summer time.

    1. We had to meet the water Jay. Fly all the way out there and not touch the ocean? No way.

  8. You weren't tempted to do a spot of surfing, then? Nah, I know. The waves just weren't big enough.

Btw: Some time ago I confessed that one of my 'guilty pleasures' is to watch reality cop shows (only when there's nothing better to do/watch, you understand.) At the moment there's a run of old 'Bait Car' programmes, mostly from around 5 years ago. I don't know if you ever saw them - the cops park a car and leave it open and empty, keys visible, waiting for some gullible thief or gang to attempt to steal it. Anyway, a number of these old progs were made in LA and, while realising that it's a HUGE city, can't help but think of you and Pat, perhaps having been in the vicinity.
There's been quite a bit of news here in the last few days about LA gang wars too. Don't know if it's suddenly flared up or is just being mentioned because we're in a lull for good news stories.

    1. Ray,
I was never tempted to surf. Never got that whole "surf" thing. The show you mentioned sounds interesting. I would like a show like that. Human nature, I've always been fascinated by the vagaries and vulgarity of human nature. That's the kind of movies that draw me to them. All our driving around in L.A., we missed the gangs. I think once we were on the periphery of gang territory. A house a real estate agent suggested that Pat take a look at. All the houses in that area of town had bars on their windows. Hmmmm. . . . not the "ambiance" Pat was looking for.

  9. How many oceans can we see? The sunset on the west coast is spectacular.

    1. David,
Maybe someday I'll see an ocean from a foreign soil. The only foreign country I've ever visit has been Canada. Now if I can talk Pat into coming along with me (to England). He has already said he has no interest in visiting foreign countries but I would like to visit at least one before I depart this life.
