What a nightmare day I had today!

I can't sign in to my You Tube Premium account.

I think the problem is that I'm trying to sign in on my 2014 iMac desktop computer. My latest IOS update if macOS Big Sur 11.7.10. Talking to Apple Support this morning I was told the latest update is macOS 15.6.

A couple years ago Apple Support told me I had a "vintage computer." Which I suppose is appropriate since I am vintage. Apparently one of the security updates has caused a browser conflict thus preventing me from accessing my You Tube account on my vintage computer.

Man oh man folks, everything is wearing out on me. First my refrigerator now my iMac computer is faltering. 

I spent a couple hours with Apple Support today but to no avail. I have a more recent iMac that I bought last year to do my taxes on my computer since my present iMac didn't support the latest Turbo tax software. But I prefer to use my vintage iMac because I have my heavy Bose speakers connected to this computer. I need those speakers for the base when I'm playing my You Tube shop music (DColor) accounts. I'm not sure I can hook those speakers and sub woofer to my new computer. I'll find out tomorrow because I called in my local Computer Guy to help me move things around.

Then I had another problem. I was trying to access my You Tube account on my new computer but I couldn't get my Magic Mouse to work. This is the "new and improved" mouse that has the lightening cable and plug on the bottom. The mouse I use on my vintage computer has to double AA batteries, which I much prefer. On my new computer I couldn't get my Magic Mouse to work and if I can't get the cursor to move, how can I do anything on that computer? I'm sorry that I always seem to be bitching about something but this is one of those days when one problem leads to another problem. The Domino Effect. 

I was just thinking last week how everything was going smooth in my life. Well that has ended.

I want my You Tube account back with my Bose speakers and sub woofer. Hopefully this can all be solved tomorrow. 

Computer Frustrations

 Well, this is a day I'll never get back.  But I did learn a bit more about being a computer technician.  Since Comcast service won't be out here until next week (Tuesday), I decided to take the bull by the horns and set up the new combination modem-router that I received via UPS from them yesterday in the rain as I was leaving for work.  How do you like THAT for a LONG sentence?  

I have to confess folks, I am a bit frazzled right now so bear with me.

As the above video indicates I played computer tech service guy this morning by setting up the new modem-router that Comcast sent to me.  Yes, I was the one crawling around on the floor, getting behind that computer cabinet, amidst years of dust cover wires to connect the new piece of equipment.

Again, in my never ending quest not to post a long and boring tech filled post, I will state that after several frustrating hours I did get everything hooked up.  Now bear with me.  I can now get WIFI with my new modem-router but I still cannot hookup the ethernet cable.  I put the ethernet cable in the back of my iMac and nada.  No Internet connection.  

I called Apple.  They walked me through several time consuming steps ending with me putting my computer in a Safe Mode and completely reinstalling the El Capitan OS operating system.  

This took some time (hours), resulting in call backs from Apple from different techs (of course) to try and make my ethernet connection work.  It didn't work.  

By this time I figured out that I didn't have a software problem with my almost new iMac Apple computer.  What I surmised (process of elimination) was when Comcast's had the power outage this last Tuesday that caused me to be disconnected from their Internet service.  

I called Comcast back and this time got a very nice woman ("Judy") from Manila (yes, the Philippines). I asked her "Do you have to activate my connection?"  She said "Yes" and she did.  Oh wait, I'm getting the cart before the horse.  Disregard my previous paragraph when I said I got an Internet connection RIGHT after hooking up my new modem-router.  I didn't get it until "Judy" activated it.  But still, I don't have an Ethernet connection.  She suggested that I call Apple back again.

That I did and after another hour and a half in which two very help Apple employees walked me through several steps, and still no ethernet Internet connection, we figured out that I will wait until the Cable Guy Comcast service technician arrives NEXT Tuesday.  Yes folks, I'm almost there.

Another frustration.  I lost my Internet connection to my new Bose Wave radio but I was able figure out how to hookup to my new home WIFI signal.  Which, by the way, doesn't have my favorite home network name nor password.  Instead it has a password of 78 alpha characters and numbers which I am anxious to change but I don't want to mess around anymore with screwing up what I have working now.

Does this make any sense?  Folks, I have an Internet connection, albeit WIFI and I'm not using my good neighbor Barb's WIFI signal thus I am an honest if frustrated Old Gay Man (there he goes with the "gay thing" again).

So now I'm listening to some really cool sound my Pandora Internet radio station ("Beyond Ragi" DJ Krush) and going to have some dinner, catch up on my online Scrabble games (before I - God forbid - forfeit any of them) and who knows?  Maybe even a Netlix movie.  It's been awhile hasn't it Ron since you've had a relaxing night at the Tipton Cinema?

Getting Ready For That New Computer

Out goes the old Gateway computer (is that company even in business now?)

No longer could I postpone the inevitable.  My old iMac was five years old (purchased in January 2010 - where does the time go)? I have found from experience that computers only last about three years (no wonder they make so much money).  As much as I love my iMac it was beginning to run slow as molasses on a January day.  So frustrating, having my brain to my fingertips blog postings constantly interrupted by the spinning rainbow wheel.  I just couldn't take it any more folks.  

In my home office I have two computers.  My very old Gateway computer (purchased 2001 - and just where did THAT time go?) and my "new" iMac that I purchased after my latest Dell computer crash (I have a history of Dell computers crashing).  I kept the old Gateway because it had a some things (old photos, address book and genealogy records) that I couldn't transfer to my iMac.  Well, to make a long story short (and not bore you all with the details - after all this isn't another one of my fun blog postings about my fabulous ten days in California last month), I bit the bullet (spent a lot of money) and purchased a new iMac with all the bells and whistles.  Specifically a new iMac with the maximum RAM 32 gigabytes) and memory (3 terabytes) that was available.  Delivery is set for this Wednesday. 

I've been putting off cleaning out that corner of my home office but I could no longer do so.  So, with gritted teeth, I dived in.  Two hours later I had it cleaned out, reasonably so.  Dusty?  Oh yes.  Lots of wires? Absolutely.  I took some wires out that weren't hooked up to anything (what was that all about?) and consolidated other wires.  

I really should clean out the rest of my home office but these days I would just rather sit at my computer, update my blog and check other blogs.  But since my computer is that "molasses" computer, I had to do something.  

I am so ready for this new computer.  I just about rationalized all the reasons for the amount of money I'm spending on it.  The way I look at it, what I don't spend on the computer the rehab center or doctor's bills will eventually eat away at my savings.  Again, at "this time of my life" what am I saving for?  Keep a nest egg Ron but if you really need something . . . . . get it.  My friend Ed, who died on January 27th, was a very rich man (millions).  Tight as a fat man in spandex he was but you know what?  He didn't take a penny with him.  There will be some money left behind when I go (mostly in the value of my home) but I'm not going to be tightfisted and do without the basic necessities of my life that give me pleasure and contentment.  The new computer, the new EXPENSIVE (no one said Apple was cheap) computer arrives Wednesday.  I hope I can buy another five years.  I figure that's about all the productive years I will have left anyway.  I'll be closing in on eighty years old then, and whoever heard of an eighty year old blogger who was relevant and that people were interested in reading anyway?

Thank  you folks!  I finally achieved my goal of 100 followers.  I was stuck on 99 for so long I was beginning to wonder if I was actually getting "out there."  And yes, I do need to have verification that you all are reading my blog.  I appreciate all of you!

Well, this morning has been rather busy.  I just got off the phone with Apple Support.  My iMac has been getting hung up the past week or so.  This morning while I was patiently waiting for the rainbow spinning wheel to finish doing it's thing, I got the Blue Screen of Death.  Hey, what's that?  I thought the Blue Screen of Death only showed up on Windows based computers.  So I put a call into Apple Support.  Since my maintenance contract is up with Apple, I now pay $19.00 per incident charge, good for thirty days, which is a good deal for me.  I get to talk to someone who speaks English as his (or her) first language and actually listens to me instead of reading from a script.  Without boring you with the details, I think we solved the problem.  It was an errant 2.4 GB disk that was hanging in iPhoto waiting to be copied to a DVD.  Some long ago DVD copying of an old family reunion that I was doing for my relatives.  I'm not copying any more reunion DVD's because of all the ones I copies, not once did I receive a "thank you".  A little "thank you" goes a long way. All too often one is taken for granted and rarely receives a "thank you."  What's with that anyway?

The Photo of the Day at the top of this posting (which has nothing to do with this posting) is one I took of New York City.  I won a free trip to New York when I was fifteen years old.  I was a paper boy and the Philadelphia Bulletin had a contest to see who could get the most new subscriptions.  Born salesman that I am (not), I won.  I took my Kodak Brownie camera with me and took a roll (eight photos) of New York.  I never thought to have a picture taken of myself or the other paper boys who won the contest.  What was I thinking?  I'll tell you what I was thinking, I was just too damn shy to ask.  Not now though.  If you know me I'm always asking "Here, take a photo of ME!" 

Time to end this rambling missive that I'm going to pass off as a thoughtful blog post and get ready for work at the hotel.  Lunch, nap, shower and then off to Expensive Botique Hotel in Lower Slower.  Tomorrow at 8:15 AM I have my stress test.  I think everyday I have a stress test.
