Prostate Update

Filling out the paperwork in the office - I'm getting pretty good at this

Just returned from my morning visit to my urologist.  So here's the deal. He examined my prostate, the ONLY way to start out the week.  Yep, the rubber glove and KY lubricant.  Okay, okay, TMI.

Here's what he found.  An unexpected "bump" on one side of my prostate but no "rough" patches which usually indicate prostate cancer.  However, he did recommend that I get the biopsy to rule out that I don't have prostate cancer.  He said it would be useless to treat me for another prostate condition if I already had prostate cancer so let's get "that out of the way."  I agreed with him.  My biopsy is scheduled for 8:30 am, January 28th, 2012.

Don't cry for me Argentina. It is what it is.  It could be worse. The company that makes Twinkies could go bankrupt.

"No Twinkies?"  Say it isn't so!

This is what bothers me - why a more than two month wait? If I had the doctor tell me something like that, then I would want to get on with it. Okay, this week is Thanksgiving, but how about next Monday or Tuesday? That is what is driving me bonkers in my own situation, this waiting and not being able to do anything about it.

Seems like a very long time to wait. Have they given you anything thing to help relieve the symptoms?

Did you say Twinks or Twinkies? Sadly they are both gone from my diet.

what a way to start a monday, as if mondays were not bad enough! :(

hope the doctor was gentle with your "nether regions".

Yes, I was thinking about that too. Nothing to relieve my symptoms yet. Something I have to live with until he determines that I don't have prostate cancer.

Anne Marie,

Yes, he was gentle.

Twinks? What are they? :)

Yes, I would like to have it over with. I'll call tomorrow and ask if there are any cancellations call me. It it as long time to wait. But then, I first saw him about this time last year and I postponed it. BTW, my PSA count this time was 4.8. It's consistently high now. Doesn't necessarily mean I have prostate cancer but something is going on.

who took these pictures?

Bill went with me in the office Dr. Spo. Usually he waits in the car. He came into the waiting room this time. He's upset. I don't think I have prostate cancer, I think I have an infection. But I'll get the biopsy just to make sure.

Waiting until the end of January is far too long. I hope you can get a earlier appointment. And hopefully it is nothing more serious than an infection.

While the biopsy won't be pleasant, I think you will find out you don't have cancer. I am glad you are finally getting it checked though. Hope you can get in sooner, waiting is no fun and makes us worry more. Know lots of good thoughts and hopes are making your way from Sonoma CA!

Cindy from Sonoma

PS...The Cindy from Sonoma came from years of writing to kids with cancer. I don't do that anymore, but I am still in touch with many families I wrote to. Both kids that made it and some who didn't. The ones that didn't make it finally got to me and I stopped.

It is a long time to wait. Two months seems to be the usual wait time. Same thing happened last year when I was going to get a biopsy but changed my mind. I'll be glad when this is all over.

Thank you. My neighbor got the results of his biopsy yesterday. Negative. I'm happy for him. He and his wife are off to Baltimore to visit their children and grandchildren for Thanksgiving. This Thanksgiving will be a much better Thanksgiving for him.
