Good news! Bill is home from the hospital.
I got the call this afternoon to pick him up.
Here is what they found:
- Atrophic gastritis
- Esophagitis
- Hematemesis
- Multiple gastric ulcers
- Peptic structure of esophagus
In layman's language Bill has ulcers and an irritation of his esophagus. He also has a fungus infection which is unrelated to his esophagus problem.
Now to begin the journey through the labyrinth of VA health care. We will begin this tomorrow with an in person visit to the VA Outpatient Clinic in Georgetown and Bill's primary care doctor. Wish us luck!
But in the meantime, I am so glad to have Bill home. Our home isn't a home unless Bill is here. I can't imagine my life without him.

Oh, Ron. I know you'll be taking good care of Bill. I trust hospital gave you dietary guidelines --and medicinal, like no aspirin. Main thing is he's home. Home. All best wishes to him and to you. Keep us informed.

The hospital did give us dietary guidelines which we will follow faithfully. I missed Bill terribly while he was in the hospital. I've been lucky because Bill has rarely been ill for a man of 88 years old. I am so glad he is at home.

So glad Bill is home. One good thing about what happened is that you were alerted to the problem. Most ulcers are treatable with antibiotics and anti-fungal medication will take care of the rest. Bill is 88 years old and I would venture to say he is in better health than myself at 72 and most I know in between. He is definitely a special man. Things will be fine in a short time.

This is great news, Ron. I know it will be difficult for both of you (at least for awhile) but at least Bill's problems were diagnosed. Hopefully you will share a peaceful holiday season together.

Both doctors who examined Bill were surprised at how healthy his heart is. But he does have peptic ulcers, aggravated by the anti-inflammatory pills he's been taking for years (50 plus). He has stopped taking those pills and changed his diet to not eat acidic foods anymore.
You're right, Bill is definitely a special man. I am one of the fortunate few in this world to have had his love for the past fifty-two years. I am privileged to take care of him at this time.
