Now that Delaware has passed the Marriage Equality Bill, I am planning our wedding.
Bill wants a small, private affair. I would like something a little more festive but I'll go along with Bill's wishes.
My co-worker Monica tells me that the Sussex County Delaware justice of the peace makes house calls. This is perfect. The new law comes into effect July 1st. Our 49th anniversary is July 3rd. I'll try and make arrangements to have him stop over here at Casa Tipton-Kelly to perform the marriage nuptials. We'll get married in the back yard, next to our birch tree planter oval.
Yesterday our good friends Jack and Judy were over for lunch. They have agreed to be our witnesses. Perfect.

Now I have to decide what kind of wedding rings that we will exchange. Do I do diamond bands or just a plain gold band? I already have so many rings, something will have to go because I will wear my wedding band.
This is still all like a dream in my head. Doesn't seem like this is really happening.
Even though the Supreme Court appears to making a very narrow ruling in the two upcoming marriage equality suites before them, that doesn't discourage me. I know that eventually the rest of the country, including the Supreme Court will catch up with the majority of the republic and history and realize that a loving a committed relationship like ours deserves the same respect, dignity and protections accorded to other Americans.
The time has come folks, a dream comes true.

Congratulations! This is indeed a momentous occasion and an historic one. You've certainly waited a helluva long time for this to become a reality. Everything seems to be working out perfectly.
I like the idea of a quiet home wedding on the 3rd. You can always celebrate with noise and fireworks on the 4th.

You are both very lucky to find true love and it is fantastic that you've been together 48 years. If only more couples could find such happiness as you two have. My first marriage was not so successful but I did manage 22 years and there were good moments. Roll on July!

Yes it is good news Walt. How is the marriage equality bill doing in France? I hear there are riots. Are there really that many people against it in France? I thought they would be a bit more understanding than the folks here in the states.

Don't forget, I work in the evenings. I don't get off until 11 pm and hold around 11:20. I need time to unwind. Sometimes that's when I post a blog if I'm in a mood. Sometimes I go to bed at 9 pm and sometimes 2:30 am. It drives Bill crazy that I don't have a set pattern but I don't. Freedom, it's a wonderful thing Sean.

If I had my way I would move up the wedding ceremony a notch or two and have disco music but Bill wants a minimal ceremony. I don't want to rock the boat so I'll go along with him. He's even agreed to a kiss at the end of the ceremony which is very unusual for him. Kissing me in public? I don't think he's ever done that in his life. Our wedding day will definitely be a first!

Oh I'm sure my homophobe cousin in North Carolina will know about my wedding. I'm quite sure either he or his narrow-minded neighbors keep track of me by reading my blog. I guess they feel the world is closing in around them every time another state passes a marriage equality bill.

My problem now is to find someone to take the video and photos. I was hoping my friend Mark could do it but I haven't heard back from him. Maybe I'll just set up my video camera on a tripod. Have to take a video though!

Maybe one day in the future I'll have some more freedom. (Sigh!) Right now I work for Mom and Dad's concierge and taxi service (along with that pesky full-time gig.)

Oh they're a nosy, gossipy bunch up there in those mountains. God forbid that someone should be different than them. I remember an incident a few years ago where they ran out of town a gay football coach. Ran out of the mountains I should say. There's a lot of hate up there in those mountains.
