Yesterday was a sick day for me.
Ever wonder what a stay at home full time caregiver does when he (or she) is sick?
Do they take a day off?
Call into work and tell the boss they can't come in because they're sick?
What we do here at Casa Tipton-Kelly is spend most of the day in bed.
My "illness" was the usual runny nose. I don't know what causes it. Could be allergies. Usually I can catch it in time by taking my allergy pills. Yesterday that didn't work.
After I got up in the morning and got Bill up and gave him is medications and breakfast I went right back to bed with my runny nose and achy body.
I drifted in and out of sleep until lunchtime. I wasn't too hungry, a sure sign that I was sick. Usually my appetite is very good. Yesterday was chicken soup day and boy did that soup ever taste good. My body said "Thank you! Thank you!" when I finished that can of Progresso Chicken Noodle soup. I was going to make my cabbage veggie hamburger soup but I just didn't have the energy to peel all those veggies. That soup is easy to make once you slice up the onion and prepare the carrots and celery. I'll make that soup today with my exclusive Tipton Potato Salad (I make the absolute best potato salad!)
Usually when I lie down when I get these runny nose attacks, my nose straightens itself out. Not yesterday. All day my nose drainage became progressively worse. After lunch I went to bed again. Didn't wake up until 5 PM. Time to feed Bill and give him his medications again.
After putting Bill to bed I went into my cozy home office and called my friend Don McK. on FaceTime. Still my nose was running like an open spigot. No getting away from it. I FaceTimed Pat and told him I was going to bed early, which I did. I didn't even have my usual evening snack. No appetite for it.
I went to bed around 10:30. Usually I don't go to bed until twelve or one o'clock. Early to bed last time and late getting up this morning to give Bill his every third day shower. And my nose isn't running now.
Time to make some Tipton Potato Salad and Hamburger Cabbage soup.
Have a great day everyone!

Glad you are feeling better. Every 10 days to two weeks I gat a nose that runs non stop for about 24 hours. Like a faucet! Then I wake up the next day and I am just fine. Sleep is good medicine. I lovepotatoe salad. I however detest most deli types. Too acidic and leave an after taste. My Midwest relatives made damn good potato salad. The basic type but with warm , non starchy potatos, celery with string removed, pickles, and hard boiled eggs. The mayo was real mayo. I think maybe a tiny drop of apple cider vinegar on the warm potatos. Atiny bit of finely minced onion. It was made the sameday it was prepared, No gooey, goopy, mustardy mess made in advance. Just a clean tasting cool fresh potato salad. No leftovers. I am a classically trained chef and I never produce it the wat all the women in the family did. I greive the loss of my potato salad. Even the good old macaroni salad of thr Muellers macaroni box is no where to be found. Comfort food from days gone by. I can however produce a good hamburger.Very hot black cast iron skillet bottom covered in coarse salt. The coarsely fresh ground chuck is formed into a simple loose ball and placed in the skillet. Smashed flat with the spatula and fried until brown and crispy crust and flipped and fried and pushed around the skillet quickly so not to dry it out. Transfer to a nice bun with lettuce, onion, tomato your chioce mayo or mustard. Fantastic taste. It best when accompanied with the potato salad and the 5 cent fountain coke or a coke in the small bottle. Got any ideas about the potato salad Ron? Be careful. Be safe. Be Happy!
Woody,
My potato salad is very simple. White russet potatoes which I peel and dice BEFORE I put in boiling salted water. I only boil the diced potatoes in the salted water until the potatoes are soft (about ten minutes) then I drain them in a colander. In the meantime I boil three or four hard boiled eggs. To the still warm potatoes I add about a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. I dice a small stalk of celery. To the cooled potatoes I add the diced celery and about a tablespoon of celery seed. A dash of black pepper. To this I add a couple of squirts of mustard, and gobs of real mayo. Some of the potatoes will be near mashed which goes fine with the gobs of mayo. I do not go light on the mayo. Last I add the hard boiled eggs which I've prechopped with my egg dicer. I mix it all together, add more salt if needed then refrigerate. This potato salad taste good warm or refrigerated. It is my staple comfort food now. I have a half a cup with lunch and dinner, no matter what I'm having for lunch or dinner. Although I like onions I do not add onions to my potato salad. My Mom used to do that and I hated potato salad growing up. By the way, your method for preparing a good hamburger sounds great! I like a good hamburger but the only type I can eat that tastes like real hamburger is Angus beef. The rest of hamburger that I can buy around here is tasteless. I prefer charbroiled but I don't have portable deck char broiler now because Bill didn't like how the broiler looked on our deck. However I do have old family black cast iron skillets (which I never use but keep as family heirlooms, I can't bear to part with them and want to keep them in the family, that many meals they served our family over the years). I like your way of frying the hamburger so it doesn't dry out but has a "crispy crust" but not dried out. Thanks Woody! I'll let you know how that turns out!
Ron
Reading these backwards as I do I hope this is over by now Saturday.
