My Presidential Prediction

Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Democratic presidential candidate

I predict the May Pete Buttigieg will be the next Democratic presidential candidate.

I also predict that Mayor Pete will be the next president.

Now of course my second statement is perhaps more wishful thinking that what is actually going to happen but I can dream can't I?

Just imagine a fresh new face as president of the United States?

Joe Biden?  Even though I am a resident of Uncle Joe's home state of Delaware and was born in the same state, Pennsylvania, a Biden, I cannot support him.  Why?  Because he's too old.  Yes, he's as old as I am.  A more important reason is that he is . . . . . boring. He just doesn't excite.  Sure, maybe he is the candidate that has the best chance of defeating Trump for the presidency, assuming Trump isn't impeached and removed from the presidency before next year which, remote as the possibility seems, could happen if the Senate Republicans decide to do the right thing by the country and obey their Constitutional oath of office rather than their own political interests.

Elizabeth Warren?  I like her and think she would make a great president but there is still a load of misogyny in this country. Other countries can elect a woman president but not our country. Remember, there is a hard core forty percent who will support Trump no matter what even if he does shoot someone in broad daylight on Fifth Avenue (they would blame Obama or Hillary).

The other Democratic presidential candidates (Harris, Castro, Klobuchar, Steyer (who?), Bennett, Yang and Corey Booker (those eyes!), it's not working folks. Save your money and withdraw like Beto O'Rourke did today.

I've heard rumors that Hillary is considering a run.  Oh please!

I can see it now, Mayor Pete at a G-7 summit with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and French president Emmanuel Macron. What a refreshing change from that corrupt orange faced criminal that now occupies the office of the president of the United States.

One can hope.

I had not even considered him. I think he will drop out, too. I like Biden. We do not need anymore excitement.

I had not even considered him. I think he will drop out. I do not mind lack of drama. I have had enough of drama from the present president.

I agree with you 100 percent. Mayor Pete is the perfect candidate. Intelligent, composed, a good listener, has a solution for every problem, young, adapts well, easy on the eyes and so much more.

For all those who have an issue with him being gay, I say get over it.

Hillary Clinton was our best chance for a woman president. She just came across too tough and her tone was too strident. Currently there are no female candidates as good as her, not Warren, not Harris, etc.

Joe Biden is too old and has too much baggage. No thank you to Bernie Sanders as well for a multitude of reasons.

Hang in there Mayor Pete, American needs you desperately.

You mentioned misogyny as a potential problem for Warren, but do you think homophobia would be less of a problem if Buttigieg were the nominee? For example, Buttigieg seems to be having difficulty winning over black voters (many of whom are more religious than most Democrats), who are a critical part of the Democratic voting base in a general election.

Practical Parsimony,
I too am exhausted by the drama of the Trump years. How nice it would be to have a boring president like Eisenhower again (I remember those years). I was bored then but I'll take that boredom over the Trump drama. I do think we need someone who is more articulate though than Biden. I think Uncle Joe has lost his step.

Cheryl,
I too think Mayor Pete is the perfect candidate right before our eyes. He is moderate like Biden but much more articulate and none of the baggage that Uncle Joe has accumulated over the years.
You are so right about Hillary. She was too strident and that cackle laugh of hers came across as insincere even though maybe it wasn't. And I wasn't looking forward to having Bill Clinton around the White House again. I was never a fan of his ever since he caved on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."
I know some people have an issue with Maybe Pete being gay (the evangelicals and the South and many of the black voters). I agree with you, it's time for them to get over it. Let's move on folks, this is life. Mayor Pete isn't the only gay person in this country. There are a lot of us and he has our vote even if he doesn't have the majority of the black vote. I hope they will eventually come around. I don't see how they can support Trump.
I echo your sentiments, Hang in there Mayor Pete! We need you desperately!
