What You Do When You Run Out of Money on Your Vacation
So folks, what do you do when you run out of money on your vacation? My host had a suggestion. He said "Let's visit my childhood playground, it's free." So here is what the Two Old Guys did yesterday after lunch. We were a little nervous entering the playground because there were some small children already on the swings but their dad was with them so we threw caution (and self respect) to the wind and got on the swings. Man oh man, when was the last time I was on a swing? Oh . . . . . . . about sixty years ago. But you know what they say, "Once you swing you never forget how to swing" or is that what they say about bicycles? No matter, we took to the swings in the kitty litter sandbox. Thank goodness we weren't arrested for making fools out of ourselves.

Hmmmm. Looks like second childishness to me, even though I long to do it myself - and remember (according to Shakespeare) what comes next. "...and mere oblivion. Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans......everything.) Thought that would cheer you up.
The solution to your quandary is, surely, a visit to the casinos. Or, on a more modest scale - Don't they have one-armed bandits in Toronto?

Hey Ron - I think it's great that while we spend some money to entertain ourselves - we have such great times doing what costs nothing or next to it. Scrabble, parks, boardwalk, streets of Toronto downtown and different neighbourhoods. And the bonus is we're great company for one another!!

We just came from a showing of "Sin City." We watched it in 3-D. Total cost $27.00, not counting the popcorn. Omigosh this is expensive. "Sin City" was an interesting movie (I eagerly await your review) but I think this is our last movie outing for my stay. And no, we don't gamble unless you count life as being a gamble, which I guess it is. For my last few days here we'll have to entertain ourselves at Pat's very comfortable abode. We're into this Scrabble competition now and I am determined to win at least one game before I leave Toronto.

You're right, when friends get together they don't have to spend a lot of money to have a good time. As my holiday comes to an end here in Toronto I want to thank you for being a wonderful host. Your house is lovely and comfortable and you are the most accommodating host I've ever had in my life. My only fear is that I wore you out. In three days I'll be gone and your life can get back to normal. Thank you again so much for being such a wonderful host and friend.

Ron, you handled that swing like a true professional and it looks like fun. You've proven the adage that the best things in life are free. I can't even remember the last time I was on a swing.

Hi, Ron. I LOVE swings! Unfortunately, most of them are too low to the ground for my legs. BUT, when I find the right height, I will swing for all I'm worth! Unless, of course, there are children waiting for it. I would never deny a child the chance to enjoy what I did as one. I'm so glad to read that you are having such a great time! You deserve to enjoy the child inside you! Hope the rest of your visit will be as memorable as the first part seems to have been! Take care.

Every day, something different. Yesterday we saw the movie "Sin City", now THAT was different. Ironically the most fun we've had is just playing Scrabble at the end of a busy day. And having dinner at my favorite all veggie Indian restaurant just down the street.

If you get a chance, check out this film. Lady Gaga has a cameo as a diner waitress. That alone should be worth the price of admission. :)

You're so kind. It was fun swinging but I was concerned that the police would swoop down upon us, two old men hanging out on the swing at the kiddie park. This day and age huh? We didn't stay too long. I think the last time I was on a swing was in elementary school. I loved it then as I do now. Probably the last time I'll ever be on a swing though.
