Sandy - The Day After

I woke up this morning - EXHAUSTED.  I couldn't figure out why because I wasn't physically working yesterday.  Then I figured it out, after undergoing almost 24 straight hours of wind and rain pounding against our house and the worry about the power going out (which it didn't, thank God), the stress was just a bit much for this old codger.  Of course Bill is an old worry wart hen so that didn't help either.  He found three places where water was coming into the house from the sideways rain and heavy winds whipping around our little development.

I got a call this morning from my co-worker at the hotel.  She asked if I was coming in.  I asked "Is the hotel open?" She said "Yes, they're putting it back together now." My other co-worker Robert, who sacrificed his days off to stay at the empty hotel, had told me that all the furniture and everything else was removed from the first floor.  Hotel lobby exposed!  Well, time for a deep cleaning, wouldn't you say?

Bill wanted to take a "day after hurricane tour" this morning.  I really didn't want to go but he wanted to make sure I could get to work.  The way I go to work I have to cross over a little canal called Canary Creek on New Road.  That little baby frequently floods and closes New Road.  We took a drive down there and noticed that the road to our development was closed!  Apparently our entrance road was flooded yesterday.  We didn't know because we didn't go out.

The video at the beginning of this blog is one that I took of our "tour" this morning.  We also drove to Milton and as expected, downtown Milton is still a lake.  The Broadkill River almost always floods when there is a nor'easter or hurricane and this storm was no exception.  I would have taken pictures but the police and fire engines were down there with lights a flashing and I didn't want to take a chance of encountering an overzealous first responder.

Overall the damage isn't too bad around here.  We definitely did dodge a bullet.  What was even more surprising was that we didn't lose power at all.  We even had satellite reception which surprises me because usually when there is just a little rainfall we lose reception.  We did lose power for about two hours on Sunday night, before the storm even started.  We were very lucky not to lose power.  Thank you Jesus.  I'm not religious but when I dodge a bullet I automatically default to spouting religious phrases.

So we dodged this disaster.  Now my worry is that Romney might actually be elected president next Tuesday.  Now THAT really would be a disaster.  Especially since he's on record for privatizing FEMA and turning over all that responsibility to the states.  Can you imagine where we would be now if you had to PAY someone to come in and rescue you?  One thing you can be sure of, Romney would have shares in that company.

Romney Scares the Baby (and me)

The baby's not buying it either Mitt!

Hey, Romney scares me too!  Babies, like dogs know when somebody is BAD.

I have to admit I am enjoying the total collapse of the Romney campaign for president.  After the real Romney was revealed in the now infamous "47%" tape, almost all of the polls have turned in favor of President Obama and for good reason.  The hidden tape revealed what Mitt Romney really believes, he DOESN'T CARE about the "47%" nor does he care or understand about most of the rest of the country.  The only people he cares about are the "1%" of his fellow plutocrats who want to further plunder this country for their own benefit.

Did you all see Senator Jim Webb's speech a few days ago on this subject?  What really galls me about Romney is his total failure in understanding or supporting our veterans, who are in the "47%."  This is the same Romney who spent his Vietnam eligibility years in France on a beach sending a postcard to his future wife Ann.  See here. I don't blame Romney for avoiding the draft, I did too.  That's why I joined the Army (for three years) so I would have some say (not much as it turned out) over where I went in the Army.  Romney supported the Vietnam war.  He demonstrated for the support of the draft.  But oh, he wasn't about to be drafted.  Oh no, not Mitt Romney.  Romney was quite content to let someone else go in his place to the rice paddies of Vietnam and die or be injured in a senseless war.

Mitt Romney on a French beach 1968 making sand postcards to his future wife while some of his peers were dying in Vietnamese rice paddies

Then, when Romney returns safe and sound from la France after the Vietnam war, he marries Ann and they produce five sons.  Of course NONE of the sons saw fit to offer their service to this country either.  But Romney is quite content to make use of the freedoms of this country and it's capital markets to make a fortune for himself and his family.

Now he wants to complete his resume and be president of the United States of America.  I assume part of the reason he wants to be president is to avenge his father George Romney's aborted run for the presidency of the U.S. after his famous "brainwashed" statement after he returned from a fact finding mission in Vietnam.  The elder Romney claimed that the generals "brainwashed" him into believing the United States was winning the war in Vietnam.  I also think Romney wants to be president because he really believes it is HIS DUE.  After all, he was born with a silver foot spoon in his mouth and in his mind it is only right that he should be president.  After all, he LOOKS LIKE A PRESIDENT.  Qualification enough for someone like Mittsy.  The current version of the Republican Party is only too glad to support him because they see him as an vehicle that they can manipulate for their goals of further tax cuts, and eliminating all social safety net programs.  Yes folks, they do want to take us back to the 19th century.  That's why they are called conservatives.  If the 19th century (with child labor, low wages, seven day works weeks and the elderly living in chicken coops) was good enough for their ancestors, it's good enough for you!

Some of my best friends wear these - they're called "Republican glasses"

Here is what really scares me folks.  Yesterday I was talking to a longtime friend who I like and respect.  He is a conservative Republican and Romney supporter as most of those of my age group.  I casually asked him if he had seen the hidden video clip where Romney mentioned he didn't care about the 47%.  My friend's reaction?  It was the usual knee jerk reaction "Oh THAT!  That doesn't mean anything. That's just the news media taking things the wrong way."

Friends, this is what really scares me....that so many people like my friend yesterday have these horse blinders on and can't see the obvious even when it is right in front of them.  They think the whole collapse of the Romney campaign is the result of a biased news media rather than the failure of the candidate.  Romney said in his "47%" video "I'll never have their support."  He was referring to the 47% of "victims" who think they are "entitled" to "health care, a job, and a home."  How about the other 47% like my friends who wear the horse blinders?  They my friends will ALWAYS vote for an empty vessel like Romney.

More images of my conservative friends - they're tuned in to "Faux News"

One thing is for sure though, that baby Romney was holding yesterday wasn't fooled.

At least George knew he was scaring the baby

Mitt Romney Born in Michigan

Uh, did you hear?  Mitt Romney, at a campaign rally this morning in Michigan said he was born in Michigan.  Uh......is this guy an a-hole or what?  I know what he did, he blew the racial dog whistle that president Obama was not born in the United States.

Wasn't governor Romney just a few days ago bemoaning that the Democrats were waging a "hate and divisive campaign?"  Uh.....what am I missing here?  I know one thing for sure, Romney is not fit to be president of the United States.

The Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney Show

Yep, that's me - Out of It

Missed me?  I've been gone for a few days.  I usually blog everyday but I've been off track the past few days.  If I stay away too long then I tend not to blog at all so I'm forcing myself to post at least something today.

I have many blog posting subjects twirling (thanks Herman Cain for the resuscitation of the word "twirling") in my head but I don't feel well enough to give them their proper due feeling like I do today.  I think my rant against Comcast a few days ago pretty much drained me (not stop that!)

For the past three weeks I've been fighting a cold.  The worst of it was last week.  I think it is gone only to wake up in the morning with a big frog in my throat and feeling the blahs.  I have been entertained somewhat by the Republican Clown Show in South Carolina.  I'm loving seeing Mitt "Mittens" Romeny squirm and twist about releasing his tax returns, which I am sure will show he is PAYING NOTHING!

I'm not a Newt Gringrich fan but I did like him handing Jon King of CNN his head when King opened up the GOP debate with a question about Gringrich's open marriage with his second wife (like there is something THE MATTER with an open marriage?)  Hey, there is nothing like a Scorned Woman and a self important pompous ass for a good show.  And, I'm not one of these right wing nuts who hates anything about The Media (I watch MSNBC ALL THE TIME "for Pete's sake") but I don't' like Jon King, he of the  big head and little stumpy body who thinks all his questions are history making.  Jon Kin walked right into the Newtser Shredder and I loved it!

Now I'm on a roll.  What's the deal with Romney not releasing his tax returns?  I know what it is, he isn't paying taxes!  I am certain of it.  And while we're on the Romney subject, what's the deal with NONE of his FIVE sons ever serving a DAY in the military?  Five big strapping dudes and NOT ONE OF THEM SERVED A DAY IN THE MILITARY?  Romney was asked about that last year and he gave one of his patented Romney Answers "Well, they help me on my campaign which is the SAME THING."  NO IT'S NOT MITT!  Are you kidding?  This is the problem with Mittens.  He honestly thinks it IS THE SAME THING.

The Romney Clan - Not one son served in the military.  What?  Are they too good?

Continuing my roll with my Romney Rant, what the deal with strapping his Irish Setter (Seamus) on the ROOF OF HIS CAR while the Romney Clan made their annual 12-hour trek to Canada some years ago?  For Pete's sake, the dog shit himself (it dribbled down the back window of their van, Romney pulled over to a gas station and hosed Seamus down and put him right back up on the roof of their car), and yet Romney says "He enjoyed himself."  How does Romney know what that dog was thinking?

Hey, now I'm back in the groove now!  I'm gonna end this rant and check out the results of the South Carolina Primary.  I'm in the mood to see the Newtser win this thing and make the Republican presidential race really interesting.  Go ahead and admit it, wouldn't you like to see Obama and Newt debate?

Random Thought On A Rainy September Sunday

This morning I woke up to the usual rain and humidity we've been having here at Casa Tipton-Kelly for the last few months of summer. N...
