Where are these mice coming from?
Since my last post I've caught TWO more mice in my Victor super duper traps. TWO MORE MICE!
WTF? Where are them coming from?
I've checked the usual entry points (the garage) and set traps along their usual route. No mice caught. Yet another one got in last night that I promptly sent to Mouse Heaven. The night before I caught another mouse, a pregnant female! The one I caught last night was also a female. Mouse Heaven baby.
So I was in a predicament? How are these mice getting into our house. This morning my good blogger friend "Woody in Ohio" provided the answer. They're getting in though my dryer vent! DAMN!
He said he had mice getting in though his dryer vent. When I read that I pulled out my dryer and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. I went out side to check the outside vent, yep that's an easy entry point. When I got back inside I decided to clean out all the muck on the floor (fourteen years of accumulated dust and dryer lint) and just on the off chance I placed my right hand around the metallic four inch house and viola! There was a HOLE on the bottom of the hose, not visible by my newly cataract corrected yes. So that's how the little buggers are getting into our house. Well, I'll take care of that.
I called Scott K., my local handyman who helps us out (for a fee of course) when the job is beyond my ability. I do a lot more handyman work since Bill can't do it anymore but sometimes it pays to hire a professional and Scott is very good and reasonable.
I called him and he answered right away. Phew! Sometimes he's on a big job and not available for a while and I have to keep following up with him but once I get him, he's good. But that's me, I'm a bit of a "Karen" when I need something done. I expect people to drop everything and take care of my needs. But that's me, to know me is to love me and most do get by that minor flaw in my character.
Lots going on around here. I've been preoccupied with this mouse problem and haven't shared some of my other daily challenges which I will do as soon as I get this mouse situation straightened out.

It is that time of the year, when field mice are looking for a warm place to spend the winter. Glad you found the entry point. That should be a simple fix (I wouldn't do it, but I know people who will.)
Ron!I am so glad you took the time to look under the dryer. Dryer vents are dangerous PERIOD. Not only are they an open door for vermin like your mice to gain entrance to Casa Kelly-Tipton they are a potential fire hazard. Google or YouTube it. I think rodent problems are just another result of the climate warming and unfortunately it is only going to get worse. Remember that SNAKES eat mice too and they got to have a place to "winter over". Just saying, Haha. Be safe. Be happy. Adieu
I was just thinking as I was eating my breakfast where is the nest? There has to be a nesting area somewhere. Is it up inside the dryer. I'd tip that dryer over and vacuum it out if for no other reason than for fire safety purposes. Another famous place for mice to enter is under the door from the garage into the house. Can you see daylight under the door? What about the other doors? If so they can get in that way. I had one of those electronic devices that plugs into an electrical outlet and used it in my garage for 20 years. No animals, rodents or even bugs could be found in the garage afer that was installed. I was skeptical at first but it worked! Okay. Keep us informed as to what happens next. Mouse Busters?! Oh, no! Now that Ghost Busters theme will be playing in my head all morning.
We had an issue with a mouse. Hubby ordered humane traps and after a month of traps we caught a total of three of the smallest field mice I have ever seen they were actually quite cute - but they had to go. I was not allowed to end their existence or divorce would have been on the table - instead I had to drive several miles away and released then in a parking lot of a restaurant we despise. We figured they would find plenty of friends and loads to eat and hopefully it would hasten the closing of the horrid establishment, Happy hunting!

Oh yes, the mice are looking for a place to winter over. It's not going to be at Casa Tipton-Kelly. I just caught four more last night at our garden shed. We've taken care of the problem here in the house, had a new dryer vent installed with a pest screen to keep the little critters out.

I don't think there is a mouse nest under our dryer. When they get in the house the first place they head for is one of our pantries. f they nest anywhere it would be under the refrigerator which is halfway in between the two pantries. A few years ago that what a little mouse couple was attempting to do before I thwarted their setting up winter housekeeping plans here at Casa Tipton-Kelly. Now to thwart the mice attempting to winter over in our garden shed. Caught four their last night! Thanks again for the tips!

I LOVE your plan to rehoming the mice you catch in on of those live traps. I also have several live traps and in previous years caught a few mince in them which I relocated to the end of Oyster Rocks Road in a wetland. This year they're going right for the death traps and ignoring the live traps. Their choice. Is that restaurant still in business?

Believe me, if it wasn't for Bill and would definitely get a cat! That's the best "mousetrap" ever. Actually though a mousetrap is much more humane because it is immediate whereas a cat will torture a mouse to death by playing "cat and mouse." Have you ever witnessed one of those scenes? The poor mouse is literally scared to death before the cat eats him/her.
