Ah yes, now I can sleep well tonight. Last night my invited mouse guest met his/her end.
When I woke up this morning and rounded the corner from my bedroom to my kitchen I opened the first pantry closet door and was pleasantly surprise (and relieved) that Mr./Mrs. Mouse met a quick end with my new and improved Victor Mouse Trap. This is the same mouse trap that Mousey has twice before managed to set off and escaped its neck braking bar.
After breakfast I next emptied out the floor of both pantry closets (yes, I have two, one I got as an extra add-on when I had this house built because I tend to accumulate packaged food, a bad habit that I'm trying to break myself from). I cleared the floors of both closets out in order to throughly clean the floors of those nasty little mouse turds and any mouse urine. Oh how I hate doing this. Cleaning floors is especially hard for me now because I have trouble getting up because of my weak legs. Old man here.
Clean the floors I did and I spent the rest of the day content in the knowledge that I am no longer sharing our kitchen with a smelly, nasty rodent. And I have to admit I have a totally new understanding of my friend Spo who lives in Phoenix Arizona who is often surprised by his Uninvited Guests . . . SCORPIONS! Oh my, I can just image opening up my utensil drawer or putting new sheets on my bed and revealing one of those little monsters with the curly cue stingy tail. I don't blame him for dispatching those critters forthrightly.

Congrats on the success of your rodent extermination efforts. Nasty little creatures and they reproduce at such an alarming rate. I was once told by a professional exterminator that they pee to leave a trail for others to follow. He said I should use a neutralizer like white vinegar to spray wherever possible to mask the ammonia odor of the pee and eradicate the trail. So I did that at several rental properties where there was a problem. A buddy brought over a blue light device before we started cleaning or spraying vinegar and we found the main entry point, THE DRYER VENT. Inside they had kept close to the baseboards and had seldom crossed the floor out in the open. They loved the area under the refrigerator. Older refrigerator have a pan that collects the condensation and the mice drink that water. Food and water is what they want. I was told that the heat attracts them to the vents in the fall and winter and they use their sharp nails to cling to the wall as they climb up and into the vent. DCon and the Victor traps work great to kill them. I think the vinegar spray worked the best to get rid of the trail and is safest to use. Be safe. Be happy. Adieu

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! You just answered my question "How are these mice getting into our house?" I checked my DRYER VENT and viola! There was a HOLE in the bottom of it. That's how these damn critters are getting into our house. I just caught another one last night. That makes THREE that I caught. I contacted my local handyman Scott K. and he's coming over this weekend to replace my dryer vent hose. Thank you again Woody!
