Marilyn
Today would have been the 90th birthday of Marilyn Monroe.
Happy birthday Marilyn!
I remember exactly where I was when I heard of her death. I was home on leave from the Army for the weekend. I awoke on that warm, August, Sunday morning and heard the news on my transistor radio.
My first reaction was one of great sadness. Profound sadness. For many reasons.
Marilyn was a love goddess who died alone.
I don't know anyone who didn't love Marilyn Monroe. Everyone liked her and yet she had so much sadness in her life.
I am forever thankful that I grew up in the Fifties when Marilyn lite up our movie screens.
Didn't we all feel just a little bit protective of Marilyn? Even me, gay as I was then and am now.
My feeling for Marilyn wasn't sexual but I do know just looking at her made me feel good.
There are many beautiful women in Hollywood and the world but there were few who sparkled brighter than Marilyn.
I've always considered Hedy Lamar the most beautiful woman in the movies but Hedy didn't have that special quality that Marilyn had. That hard to describe quality that just made you feel good about yourself and being in the same world that Marilyn inhabited.
On the next clear night, look up at the sky. Look for the brightest star. That would be Marilyn.
Happy birthday dear Marilyn.

Rita Hayworth Jumps the Line
Good morning folks! I'm doing a "place holder" posting today.
Sometimes I think I post too
One of the many things I love about the new Digital Age these days is that a whole new generation of folks can enjoy what real talent and beauty looks like through the magic of nameless folks who take these old movie clips and put a new sound track to them. Watch this video and feel good.

Channing Tatum
![]() |
| Channing Tatum |
The first time I saw Channing Tatum was on last year's Oscar telecast. He was in a dance number with a woman whose name I have forgotten but I didn't forget him. When I saw him doing the light fantastic (with those incredible buns of his) I thought "WHO IS THAT?" Oh...My...God.
Later I found out he is an actor who appeared in some Chippendales type movie which I haven't seen (yet).
Of course I've heard is name bandied about in the two lying gossip rags that I receive every week (the National Enquirer and the Globe). Unusual name, easy to remember. Cute face. A really CUTE face. But then Brad Whats His Name also had a cute face at one time. Brad, he of the ever changing hairdo and facial hair. You know who I'm talking about, the superstar with the Global Family that they are always carrying from one airport to another. Once I saw Brad Pitt give an interview with such an attitude that any attraction I had to him quickly evaporated by his silent arrogance.
This week I received my latest issue of Vanity Fair. Channing Tatum is on the cover. That is a clear indication that this young man (33 years old I believe) has arrived.
I must say, it is so refreshing to receive an issue of Vanity Fair that doesn't have some old tired retread actor or actress on it. Thank you Vanity Fair.
The article goes on to state that Channing is "an action hero who can act." What a novel approach. He's also one HOT MAN. That helps. Not only me but millions of gay men like me (who have the good taste that I have) and also millions of women (who he is obviously playing too with those pouty lips of his).
I am old enough to remember movie stars who had "IT". Right away I recognized that Channing Tatum has "IT". There have been other actors much ballyhooed like George Clooney and Matthew McConaughey as the "Sexiest Man Alive".
Hey, good actor both but sexy? Hardly? At least from my viewpoint. I just don't see it.
No comparison Pancho. Nada.
And then there is The Brat, Justin Bieber. You know
Oh I've had my Movie Star Crushes before. My latest was Ryan Gosling. That heat is quickly dissipating, sorry to say. Ryan seems to have fallen into the "Do you KNOW who I am trap" plus he's palling around with Eva Mendes or someone one like that.
There was actually someone else that got my embers glowing but I even forget who that was now that I have been totally distracted by the boyish good-looks of Mr. Tatum.
Yep, I think this Channing Tatum has a future.

Brad Pitt Makes a Douche Commercial!
OMG! Did you see the new Chanel No. 5 commercial Brad Pitt made?
OMG!
This is the worst piece of drek I've seen since the infamous "Tank Commercial" that Democratic presidential candidate Michael Dukakis made to show his bonafidas (balls) as a tough puppy.
The Dukakis "Tank Commercial" ended up making the former Massachusetts governor a laughing stock of the world. Not the result Governor Dukakis was looking for.

The same thing will happen with this commercial Brad Pitt made for Chanel No. 5. First of all, does anyone know ANY MEN who are going to buy Chanel No. 5 just because Brad uses it? What's it smell like, Movie Star Sweat?
I admit, I've never been a Brad Pitt fan. Sure, he's handsome and a good actor but to me he's just way too full of himself. And don't even get me started on the whole Angelina Jolie and Adopting a Kid From Every Nation thing. It seems like every time I see this duo they are carrying around one of two of these kids who are much too old to have mom or pop carrying them around but hey, isn't that why movie stars get the kids, to show off? But that's another thread I won't get into here.
But Brad, what were you thinking? You didn't make a commercial for a perfume, you made a douche commercial.

Changes
Just sitting here on a Saturday night waiting for Frankenstorm to hit the coast of Delaware. I was going to post about the original Frankenstein and was checking You Tube for an interesting film clip. I ended up looking at "Young Frankenstein" outtakes and laughing my ass off. I was going to post those but decided instead to post this "Changes" compilation video of movie stars. I'll post the Young Frankenstein outtakes closer to Halloween. They are funny. In the meantime check out this video to see how some of our favorite Hollywood stars aged. Notice that some aged well (Barbara Stanwyck) and some not so much (Marlon Brando).
Enjoy!

Who's Hot, Who's Not
![]() |
| Bradley Cooper - my ABSOLUTE favorite HOT GUY today - AWESOME! |
Recently one of my favorite bloggers posted a picture of Rob Lowe. The picture was of Rob at 47 years of age and my friend's point was how good he thought Rob looked at age 47. I agree with him, Rob still looks handsome. But is he hot? Not in my mind. Years ago, before I knew of Lowe's personality, I thought he was one of the hottest male movie stars in existence. He took my breath away. Foolish me. This guy is so stuck on himself that he nullified the natural beauty he was born with. That attitude turns me off.
I don't have anything against a guy or a gal being aware of their beauty. I like self-confidence in a person. But when it crosses the border to arrogance and the "don't look at me directly in the eyes because I am a STAR!", that turns of my hormones. I've met a number of good-looking guys in my younger, cruising days. I have to say, with few exceptions, the guys who turned me on the most were of average looks. Some even looked weird, a fact which my hubby still teases me about to this day. By the way, I call my Partner Bill 'my husband" these days WITHOUT APOLOGY. I never felt quite right with "lover", "partner", "spouse'. So what to call him? A few postings ago I accidentally typed "husband" and I was going to delete it but it sounded right so I left it. What does he call me? "Ron." He's still of the Old School. I'm working on it.
So here folks is a partial list of who I think is hot and who is not. For your perusal:
![]() |
| Rob Lowe - I can't believe I ever thought this vacuum was hot - he's NOT! Look at those eyes, empty. Fake smile, full of himself. I'm not surprised he's not a star. Perhaps in his own mind. |
Don't worry, I'm not going to let the ladies out of this review. I may be gay but I do appreciate feminine beauty, perhaps more so than many straight men. Being gay I have a special appreciation of what makes a woman truly beautiful.
![]() |
| Hedy Lamarr - considered by many the most beautiful woman ever to grace the silver screen. It was said when the audience saw her for the first time in "Algiers" an audible gasp went up in the theater, her beauty was that breathtaking. Hedy is my all time most beautiful woman. Coincidentally we both share the same birthday, November 9th. |
![]() |
| Jennifer Lopez - aka "Jo-Lo" and also "Jenny From the Block" - Miss "Don't look directly into my eyes because I am a STAR" - when I see this woman all I can think is NO TALENT, DIVA and BIG ASS |
![]() |
| Elizabeth Taylor - a smoldering, sensual beauty of The Last Movie Star . Comparing her with Jennifer Lopez is like comparing diamonds with cheap costume jewelry. |
![]() |
| Marilyn Monroe - sweet, sensitive and vulnerable Marilyn. Again, I should apologize for even comparing her with Madonna but that is what Madonna tried to do early in her career. |

Oscar Fashions on the Red Carpet
Okay folks, you asked for it! Actually you didn't but I'm going to give it to you anyway. Here is Ron's Take on the Oscar Fashions on the red carpet last night.
Cruella deVille has arrived! (aka Sharon Stone)
And the Charmin Bathroom Tissue award goes to the gorgeous as always Halle Berry!
Helena we know you're quirky but really....the Edward Scissorhands Award?
Count on Helena for the outrageous. After all, she is married to Tim Burton.
The best maternity dress of the night, classic understated elegance by Best Actress Oscar winner Natalie Portman:
Cool as an icicle, brrrrr!.....Michelle Williams, Best Actress nominee:
Hey, I may be gay but this outfit that Jennifer Lawrence has hugging her curves definitely does something for me! WOW!
One of the most overrated actresses, ZZZZZZZZZ, the always boring Scarlett Johannsen:
Reese, I hardly knew ye! Whatever happened to that adorable little girl? Only Julia Roberts can do Julia Roberts:
Christian Bale uglies it up with a red beard. Christian takes over the Russell Crowe mantel of Full of Himself, Obnoxious Actor of non-American origin. Bale will be even more odious now that he has won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. God save us from these bores. Nice understated gown on wife Sibi though. Obviously only room for one MASSIVE EGO in this family.
By contrast with the previous actor, here is a class actor. I loved his first line when he accepted his Oscar for Actor: "I have a feeling my career has just peaked." Love you Colin!
I swear this is the same gown that my date Jeanette wore to my 1959 Senior Prom. Looks good on the teenage Best Supporting Actress nominee Hailee Steinfield:
The WTF Award goes to Kate Blanchette for the "what was she thinking?" gown/ Princess Leia's Mother?
Gwynnie Paltrow's "Lost in Space" gown:
Nicole and Gwynnie - two fabulous actresses!
This is what a gown looks like when you can't make up your mind....wear both! Best Supporting Actor Mark Ruffalo's date confuses everyone in her Victor/Victoria gown:
Winner of the Best Supporting Actress Oscar Melissa Leo: so so gown but love the personality. Hitting on 94 year old Kirk Douglas. It doesn't get any better than that! I'm looking forward to seeing Melissa in more movies in the future:
No one plays a lesbian better than the straight Annette Benning. She was robbed of the Oscar for Best Actress but she will be back. Love you Annette! Whose the doofus with you?
Oscar co-host Anne Hathaway, always spectacular in red:
I like this new slim look in pants with male actors. The black hip-hop influence is dead (Thank God!) Andrew Garfield from "The Social Network" - sexy! Love that bow-legged look. Wuff!
Sandra Bullack (minus Jesse James) with her portable seat cushion:
Best Actor Nominee Jesse Eisenberg who aced the role of billionaire A-Hole Mark Zuckerberg in "The Social Network" What's with that hair? Just get out of the shower? Go home Jesse. Buy bye.
Jennifer Hudson, winner Best Actress in a previous year. Love your weight loss Jennifer but when are you going to move on from wailing singing in weight loss commercials and on to that next Oscar nominated role?
Celine Dion, Old Horse Face Herself, in a gown made out of white on white patterned wallpaper. Go have another kid with Renee. Nobody cares.
Best Supporting Actress nominee Jackie Weaver. I love it when Mom gets to go to the Oscars!
I also love it when hot, straight young men take their Mom to the Oscars. Bravo Justin Timerlake!
And falling in the OH MY GOD category:
co-hosts Anne Hathaway and James Franco cross dress: Anne? YES!
James? He looks better in tights
I'll never look at Marilyn in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" in quite the same way again.
