My friend Bob McCamley's obituary appeared today in our local paper. I am posting it to my blog today in the hope that those who were privileged to know this gentle bear of a man during his seventy-seven years on this earth but who have lost touch, will now have closure.
Thank you my friend Bob for making my life so rich. Your memory will never fade.

Ron - that's truly a nice obituary. It certainly comes across in this obit and your following statement that Bob made the world a better place when he was here.

Pat,
Bob was one of those people every body liked. And he was one of those rare friends who stayed friends with me, no matter how far off the rails I went sometimes. But Bob never did "go off the rails". He was always a steady rock. And funny too! The stories I could tell. In fact I will tell a few at his memorial on October 25th. So many stories, I'm going to have to decide which one. This is going to be a hard decision.

So often in my life I wished that friends from one chapter of my life could meet my friends from another chapter in my life. You not meeting Big Bob is one of those missed opportunities. You would have both liked each other immensely. That I know for sure.

I am one of those folks that was friends with Big Bob many, many years ago and we lost contact over the years. I never forgot Big Bob. I am sorry to read of his passing. Rest in Peace Big Bob. Sorry I did not get to see you after all these years....

Bob was a very important part of my life. He befriended me when I had no friends when I arrived at Ft. Devens, Mass alone back in 1960. The six months we spent together (totally unaware that either one of us was gay, I never gave it a thought nor did he) and then the many years after that that we remained good friends. I miss him every day.
