I am so so happy for you both.
Truly a dream come true!
Had to watch twice because the tears kept coming.
So, so lovely.
Congratulations Ron and Bill!!! So glad today finally came to pass. Much happiness to you both,
Cindy from Sonoma
PS...You both make a very special married couple.
Congratulations to you both!
What a lovely ceremony! I got really emotional seeing Bill crying. Wishing you all the happiness in the world on this beautiful wedding day and 49th anniversary!
(sniff) waaaaaaaaa! :')
(I always cry at weddings)
so where are you lovebirds going to honeymoon?
I am sitting here sobbing.....dang it, I always cry at weddings!
All I can say is I am so proud of Bill for standing tall and going through with this. I am sure it took a lot of guts for him, being of "his" generation.
The least that judge could have done is SPEAK UP! Geez I could hardly hear her! lol
Congratulations to you both and here's hoping for many years of wedded bliss(when Bill isn't mad at you Ron). ;-)
WAY TO GO Ron you made Bill cry! I'm a little teary eyed myself. !!!! A hearty congratulations to you both. Like everyone else will say I'm sure there's a lot of love in that room. Hugs to you and Bill. Randy.
Oh and before I forget.....did anyone sit you down and talk about the Wedding Night yet? ;-)
Yay!
My sentiments exactly BadgerBear.
Ron
Uh....slugmama....we've already done that......maybe 49 years ago. Just saying. :)
Thanks Randy! Did you detect the love in that room? I love him more today than I ever have.
Ron
Bob,
I know it's a tired old cliche but I feel like I'm going to wake up any moment and realize I was only dreaming.
Ron
Bob,
If people only knew what we've both been through to get to this point in our lives. Especially Bill, because he is of the older generation and of that mindset that he always had to hide and be ashamed of who he is. This morning was overwhelming for him. A good "overwhelming." He is so happy right now as I am.
Ron
Thank you Cindy. Today was our dream come true.
Ron
Thank you George.
Ron
Thank you Nadege. Bill surprised me by getting all "blubbery." I teased him about it later and he got a little made. He said "I just love you too much." I do love that man, probably more than he knows.
Thanks again for your well wishes on our wedding.
Ron
Anne Marie,
Believe it or not, we're planning on going to Gettysburg for our "honeymoon." I haven't been there since our Junior Class Trip in 1958 and Bill hasn't been there is years either. We may go in the fall. We actually had our "honeymoon" back in 1965 when we visited Canada. That was a wonderful week that I will never forget.
Ron
slugmama,
The justice of the peace did speak very light. I could hardly hear her and Bill's hard of hearing as it is.
Yes, it did take a lot of courage for Bill to go through with a public ceremony. I actually wanted to do something more but Bill wanted to keep it small. We only had our witnesses (our dear friends Jack and Judy), a photographer friend of mine (Ann) and a newspaper woman who was also there taking photos and writing a story. That was about all Bill could handle. Every time we started to plan something at home it just grew too big and got Bill upset. I think our ceremony went well this morning anyway. Good thing we didn't hold it outside like w were going to because it was raining off and on and very, very humid.
I think this morning went very well. We waited a long time for this day so nothing could really go wrong.
Thanks for your good wishes.
Ron
Dear Ron and Bill,
Congratulations on your wedding! I wish you both every happiness in the future
(to go along with the past 49 years of loving togetherness)!
Dede Out West
Thank you Dede Out West. Yes, we have had 49 years of loving togetherness. I think he have a few more years left in us.
Ron
My usual toast at weddings is A tes amour,A votre santé and L'Chiam: To your love, to your health and to life. That sums it all up. Best wishes.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is sooooo AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so happy for both of you!!!!!!
I wish you many more happy years together! It's proven that married people have longer life spans!
Peace <3
Jay
bwhahahahahaha! :)
This really is a momentous occasion and a testimony to the fact that true love endures all of the obstacles that society has placed in front of same-sex couples. I wasn't there in person but I was there in spirit. All the best to you and Bill!
Jon,
As usual, you have a way with words which expresses so well the feelings we had today. I seriously don't think most straight people and younger gay people know what obstacles Bill and I and other long time same sex couples have had to endure just to stay together. I know it's been especially hard on Bill because he is of that older generation that knew the only way to survive was to hide and apologize and made to feel shame for who he is. I think by today's marriage ceremony he just threw off that cloak of ignorance and hate and we are ready to begin life anew as equals to all other members of this country and human race. I know myself I feel liberated for the first time in my life.
Ron
Jay,
Thank you so much for your well wishes. Yes, it is inded AWESOME!
Ron
Congratulations on your wedding! I am so happy for you and Bill.
Anonymous,
Thank you for your toast. Our first today.
Ron
Anne Marie,
Bill got all blubbery on me. I got on him about it.
Ron
Congratulations! My first gay wedding. I will always remember this day. The video was great except your justice needed to speak up.
Perhaps this was better than having a bash with strangers invading your house. No one had to travel in Holiday traffic (except you
guys) and no one blocked our view in fact we can see it again and again. Didn't think about tears after all I knew this was coming but
the tears started rolling about half way through realizing what a special moment this was indeed. May you both enjoy many more years
of bickering and happiness together! Stuart in FL
I get to join the reception line near the end , but no less excited for you both ! OOXX
You should have taken Bill with you to work (honeymoon) and then you check yourselves into the honeymoon suite at the hotel, Bliss to follow!
David,
Now why did I think of that? Alas, I'm afraid we're long past the honeymoon phase. That was many "moons" ago. Bill went to bed at his usual time of 7 pm last night and I worked at the hotel. Maybe next spring we'll take our "honeymoon."
Ron
Dr. Spo,
Thank you for your well wishes. All are appreciated, whether at the beginning of the line or at the end of the line. You'll know this wonderful feeling when you and Someone get hitched. Maybe at next year's Bloggerama? Huh? Huh? Just give me the word. :)
Ron
Stuart,
As usual you're are very observant and right on every count. Even with the "flubs", yesterday's ceremony was great. Yes, the Justice of the Peace could have spoken a little louder (actually, a LOT louder) but having my Flip video on a tripod was a brilliant idea (wouldn't you say?) Even the camerawoman who set up the Flip video and was taking the flash photos was crying and she's used to these weddings! I got choked up myself when I saw how emotional Bill got. For Bill this has been a long haul. He's lived most of his life in the shadows, hiding and ashamed of who he was. For him to come out yesterday was a big step for him. And of course I think it is obvious to anyone who watches this video how much I love this man. Sure, we have our "times", but our love for one another has never waned. Yesterday proved that fact.
Thanks!
Ron
Thank you Ken.
Ron
Congratulations! Your Bill is a treasure. Take good care of each other.
Thank you Will J.! Yes, My Bill is a treasure. I hit the jackpot when I met him all those years ago. I'm one of the Lucky Ones and I know it. I am so happy that we can end our lives with the dignity and respect (and protections) afforded to straight couples. Nice feeling!
This was wonderful. I cried. Cried with happiness that two loving souls can now be free to be who they were always meant to be. Bill looks so cute and tears ran down my face. And you look cute too! YOU GUYS! WOW!
Brian,
You said it just right: "...two loving souls can now be free to be who they were always meant to be." I think Bill was crying with relief because of all we have been through in our years together. This is still hard for him to believe that we are no longer marginalized or discounted because of who we are. It is such a wonderful feeling to know that we are equal now in the eyes of the law and respected just as any other married couple. We could never in a million years imagined that day when we first met that rainy Saturday night in Philadelphia in 1964. Truly amazing.
Ron
