Another Shooting

I woke up this morning to the news of yet another random shooting.  This one happened overnight at a western bar/nightclub in Thousand Oaks California. Twelve innocent people were killed pus the gunman.

This was a club frequented by college kids.  The motive is still unknown but what is known is the killer was yet another angry white man.

It is clear now that the greatest danger to people like you and me ate domestic terrorists. Usually angry white men with easy access to automatic weapons.

Last night I had trouble sleeping knowing that Trump put a political hack as Attorney General of the United States. This person Trump saw on CNN saying that the Mueller investigation needed to be "reigned in."  Yes, Trump hired someone he saw on television that he thinks will help him end the Mueller investigation. This information was enough to keep me from having a good sleep last night.  Then I awake this morning to yet another shooting.

I thought I would be relieved after the mid-term elections especially since the Democrats took over the House of Representatives. But I'm not relieved, especially after that bizarre press conference that Trump had yesterday in which he deliberately baited a CNN reporter (Jim Acosta).

I've lived a long time friends but never in my life did I think I would be witnessing what is happening in our country now.  This is nothing less than a cold civil war.

  1. And to think that in the 2016 campaign he had the brass neck to refer to himself as 'The Great Unifier'. It's long been clear that what he means when he talks about 'working together' is "You have to be on my side or you're my enemy". Every bit as truthful as his claim (conveniently forgetting that the American electoral system has an inbuilt bias in favour of Republicans) that Tuesday was a "tremendous achievement". Strewth!

    1. Ray,
Trump is a repellant human being. How this country ended up with him as our leader is still hard for me to comprehend. Just goes to show you what is just lurking beneath the surface of our citizenry who voted him into office. I hope I live long enough see him brought to justice and this dark period of American history come to and end.

  2. We are stunned. This area is where Glenn's family lived, the now all live a a few more miles west in Camarillo. Since his mom passed in Sept. we have been in this area more often than usual. But, no matter where this happens, we need to do more to give troubled people all the help they need.

    1. Mike,
So sad and tragic for the families who have lost their loved ones. I just cannot imagine the pain they're feeling now. I don't know what the answer is to solve these senseless shootings.

  3. Tragic. Reports are the gunman was cleared for release by a mental health professional after previous with police, but no one stopped him from having a gun. The first thing he did was murder the armed security guard, so much for the good guy with a gun theory that Dump keeps touting.

    1. David,
Anybody who has mental health issues should definitely not be allowed to have a gun! Why is that so hard to understand for professionals who are supposed to protect us? I never understood this gun culture that is unique in our country. And the Good Guy With A Gun theory doesn't work. Stupid.

  4. And now in the same area of the shooting there are high winds and a massive brush fire has broken out. The 101 freeway from Thousand Oaks heading west to Camarillo is now shut down and structures have burned.

    1. Mike,
Just saw a report on TV about the fires near Malibu. Pat and I were in Malibu two years ago, so beautiful. The homes I saw on TV this morning, so beautiful, being destroyed now. And to have these fires in the same area where the shooting occurred and those senseless deaths of innocents. Sad, sad, sad.

  5. Hadn't thought of this --or the increasingly destructive incidents of the past couple years-- as a "cold civil war" but think you're right on the mark. Obama couldn't fix everything Bush did wrong (who could?) and Trump's divisive sabre-rattling is amplifying the damage, especially among those shell-shocked and troubled from trying to serve their country. Here in California, the state has greatly augmented psychotherapy programs in V.A. facilities, but obviously it's not enough.

    1. Geo.,
I try to imagine being in a situation where a random shooters enters and tries to kill me and others around me. I just cannot imagine the fear they felt. Even worse, I cannot imagine the terrible loss of those who lost their loved ones. So sad.
