Today We Get Married!

The day is here!  I still can't believe it.  I awoke this morning and found this card from Bill,, celebrating the 49th anniversary of our meeting.  I know Bill took a long time to pick out this card because the wording says it all.

This is what I posted on Facebook this morning.

I still can't believe this day has finally arrived.  The day that the love Bill and I have for one another no longer has to hide or apologize for who we are, the day that we are no longer lessor than, the day that we get married and thus have the dignity, respect, legal protections that all citizens of this country have. Somehow it seems appropriate that our anniversary is just one day before the Fourth of July, the date that the founders of this country proclaimed that all its citizens had the right to their pursuit of happiness and freedom.

Let those wedding bells ring today folks because we're getting married today!

Check the video I posted today. I was dry eyed but Bill wasn't. So sweet.

Congratulations on your wedding day! I am the alumni director at Peirce College and was doing a web search to see if I turned up any interesting alumni. Boy, did I pick the right day to do that! Wonderful news about you and Bill, and all wishes for continued happiness. If you ever make it up to Philly, we would love to greet you at your alma mater. Happy Day!

  10. Congratulations, Ron.

Your remark, "The day that the love Bill and I have for one another no longer has to hide or apologize for who we are," struck a particular chord with me.

We don't quite have same-sex marriage in the UK yet (though it's going through the parliaments in London and Edinburgh), but we have had civil unions for some years. I remember at mine and Jim's feeling something absolutely new: sheer unclouded joy that all these people were celebrating *us* and our love, in contrast to all those years when we had to wonder whether we would be 'accepted', when we had to keep a weather eye out for possible snubs or intolerance... That, I guess, was something like what you felt.

Congratulations Ron & Bill!! May you have many more years of happiness.

Your ceremony had me all teared up & laughing at the same time. It was such a precious ceremony & I can tell how much you both love each other.

    Sincerely,
    Fran
