Marriage License!

Me filling our my marriage application form.  Bob and Paul are to my immediate left.  New friends.

Happy days folks!  Bill and I applied for our marriage license this morning at the Sussex County Courthouse in Georgetown.

We arrived at 7:15 am, just behind another couple; Bob and Paul.  As we were going up the courthouse steps I asked them "Are you guys going the same way we're going?"  And indeed they were.

When we arrived at the top of the stairs we saw several other couples had already arrived before us. The marriage application bureau was to open an hour early this, the first day of same sex marriage applications in the state of Delaware.

We quickly bonded with Bob and Paul, who were there to also get their marriage application, having previously married in Canada in 2007. I do believe we made new friends.

More couples started to arrive, the mood became more festive.  As a matter of fact, the mood was VERY festive (one might even say "gay") on this rainy Monday morning.

I will write more about this morning later.  Just for now I have to process all this happiness in my mind.

"Fantastic" doesn't even to begin to describe how I felt and all the other couples felt this morning in that small courthouse room. The rain was beating against the windows outside but no one noticed because of all the "sunshine" in the room. Lots of love in that room this morning. It was the way it is supposed to be.

    1. Anne Marie,

There was a LOT of love, happiness and laughter in that room at the Sussex County Courthouse this morning. Bill usually doesn't go for that sort of public thing but he was right in the middle of it this morning. He's a changed man. He said he's going to my family reunion and class reunion this year, which is a first. Who knows, maybe he'll even come to the Bloggerama next year!

    1. Today was an exceptional day Nadege. I've never felt this way before. I know I'll have a hard time getting to sleep tonight. We're actually looking forward to after the wedding on Wednesday so we can go back to "normal." Our faces are hurting already from smiling so much.

Ron, WOW!!! It must have been something special of an event to get Bill down to the courthouse and pose for pictures out in public! He looks like he doesn't have a care in the world either. You all are surrounded by friends and like minded people, so who cares! I hope Bill does show up at Bloggerpalooza, He'll find out of all the fun he missed. BTW I had a chance to talk to Jay in VA on the phone last night. We both had a very nice chat for about 45 minutes, and hope to do it again. Looking forward to pics and videos of your special day. Later on. Randy

    1. Randy,

I'm more surprised than just about anyone that Bill consented so easily to go early this morning to be one of the first same sex couples to apply for a marriage license. And he had a good time! Bill has already said he will go to my family reunion this October and my class reunion in September. He's never went with me before. Now that we're "legal", maybe that's the difference.

Glad you had a nice talk with Jay in VA. You'll like all the folks that you meet at next year's Bloggerama. All fine folks.

  10. Ron, I love how Bill is appearing to enjoy this, despite his desire for "privacy". I imagine that this is challenging for him, but it is clear that he gets how important this is to you. So happy for you both!

    1. Tony,

I'm very surprised that Bill consented to go early this morning. Normally he would want to wait until no one else was around. And he enjoyed himself! Wonders never cease. I love this new Bill. Yes, he knows how important this is to me.

  12. I want to join the conga line of congratulations.
I notice something < all these folks getting hitched are relatively old. I sense these are couples of have been together a long while. Were there any youngsters there? I wonder why young folks don't get married - it's so for straights, so where are all the young in love gay guys?

    1. Dr. Spo,

You are very astute! Bill and I both noticed the age of the marriage applicants. Later there was a young (20 something) couple who came in. I felt sorry for them because they seemed so uncomfortable and out of place with us "oldsters/" We oldsters were having such a good time and this young couple just wasn't getting the source of why we were so happy. They were so serious. Then again I remember (yes, I can remember that long ago) when I was young. I would have probably felt very uncomfortable around a bunch of old, out of shape fossils too. All I can say is that we had a grand OLD time this morning. Wednesday morning, when we get married will be the icing on the cake. Can't wait!
