Guess Who Is Peeking At My Blog?

My co-workers.  Yep, my co-workers read my blog.  "Hi co-workers!"

Now I'm racking my brain to find out if I remember saying anything hurtful or disrespectful about my co-workers.  I don't think I have but if I have...oh well.  One might say I've invited a peek and they looked.

I guess I knew all along some of my co-workers would read by blog since I've blabbed enough about it at work.  I guess I thought no one would be interested and wouldn't bother reading my dribble.  Well, I guess I was wrong.

So here is what I'm going to do folks.  I'm going to follow the "Aunt Barbara Rule."

You say you don't know what the "Aunt Barbara Rule" is?  One of my faithful blog readers knows what that rule is.  It is his Aunt Barbara and he follows the rule himself.  Here is the rule:

Never write about anything in your blog that will embarrass or offend Aunt Barbara.

Simple rule right?  Well, I guess I should have been following the "Aunt Barbara Rule" all along but as regular readers of my blog know, occasionally I do go off the rails.  That is, I rail about somethings that invariable offends someone, and maybe that was my intention.  What I do know is that I have lost more than a few friends and some blog followers who didn't like what I had to say or thought I was talking about them (which I probably was).

I rarely write about where I work and the kind of work I do but I do like what I do and where I work.  I like my co-workers and I even like my boss (smile) and even the owner (how about that?)  I am very fortunate to work at a classy place with classy people in a beautiful town.  This was my goal my whole life, to end my days with a nice job working with nice people "near the water."  That I am doing folks and I love it!

So be on notice folks I probably won't be writing about my favorite porn DVD's, my past salacious history, and how much I make at work.  Nope, won't be happening folks.

Having said that I will still endeavor to make this blog one of the most sought after, interesting and provocative blogs in the blogosphere.  Well, well.  I would say I have my work cut out for me, wouldn't you?  Oh I do love a challenge.

  1. I used to worry about that. Then I figured it was MY blog, my opinions and if someone didn't like it they were free not to read it. Or they could enter a comment (seldom happens) and politely disagree. You and I are the same age. Time to realize that there are always going to be people who don't like us but with 6 billion people to choose from there are plenty of others who will be friends. I enjoy your blog and your opinions.

    1. Jay,

You are of course right on all points you made in your comment. For a while I was trying not to offend anybody but I found I didn't have much to write about and what I did write about was pretty dull, even for me. Yes, at our age I do realize there are people who are not going to like us. The best one was a few months ago when a person who I thought was my friend (here where I live) sent me a curt e-mail stating "There are three things you said in your blog I didn't like. Sorry to have wasted your time. Bye." I wasn't quite sure what he got his panties in a twist about but I figured whatever it was it wasn't important if he was going to base our friendship on something I may have said or not said in one of my blog postings. Hell, my real friends (long time) know I've been a LOT tougher on them and we're still friends. The only thing this "friend" proved to me was that even in my advanced years I can sometimes be fooled and think someone is my friend when in fact they are not my friends at all.
Thank you Jay for your generous compliment about enjoying my blog. I enjoy writing it.

  2. Ron - your Aunt Barbara must be pretty old by now and we all know old people don't care what young'n say or do. Oh, and old people tend to speak their mind - something you do very well. :)

Unless you are going to scrub all your past posts, I say just continue to write what you want. What are they gonna do? Make fun of you?

    1. Jay,

Yes, my "Aunt Barbara" is REAL old. Actually I have two aunts left. One is 93 and she has dementia and the other is 83 (same age as my Bill) and she's doing just fine. Nether one would care what I write about but they don't read my blog anyway.
I will continue to write what I write but there is a lot that I don't write about. The two main subjects are my work and my interaction with my co-workers, the manager the owner (lots of drama always going on there) and Bill. Also, I don't write much about my neighbors other than I have some really fabulous neighbors but even with them there are stories to tell but I wouldn't write about it on my blog. I have plenty of other "stuff" to write about.
I have scrubbed a couple of my posts, especially the one from a former friend who got all bent out of shape about something I said on one of my blog postings that he thought applied to him (probably did but I didn't mention names). He TOLD me to remove his picture and any reference to him on my blog. I was happy to remove those posts.
Make fun of me? All my life I've been made fun of. That doesn't bother me any more. Maybe when I was 15 years old. I've always considered anyone who took the time to mock me as jealousy, which is exactly what it is.

  3. Since when does Ron Tipton let anything or anyone shut him up? Never, that's when. I say to hell with Aunt Barbara (no offense, Spo). Tell it like it is!

  4. Ha, this subject invoked a big smile.
It's nearly impossible to blog without eventually offending someone. I've unwittingly been offensive more times than I care to remember. I try not to mention names of friends, but if I do I'm careful about what I say.
A lot of my relatives read my blog and half of them don't speak to each other - so I avoid mentioning any of them at all.

When I first started blogging I was determined not to reveal anything personal at all - not even my name - but I soon found this to be a complete impossibility. Over the years I've said FAR too much.

There is indeed a danger in maintaining a public blog - - we never know who's peeking! Perhaps that's the fun of it....

    1. Jon,
Believe it or not when I started my blog I was going to be anonymous but that didn't last long. I'm not sure if any of my relatives read my blog but I think my pastor brother's wife reads it so I'm careful not to hurt her feelings when I go off one of my religious rants. Even though he is a Bob Jones University trained pastor and lives in Greenville, SC, he and his wife have always treated me decent. In fact they have more than treated me decent and they don't preach to me which I appreciate. We have a mutual respect for one another which is as it should be.
Like you over the years I've said FAR TO MUCH. Didn't mean to but overtime it happens as you know.
Everything I put in my blog is real, not made up and not exaggerated. But I don't put EVERYTHING in my blog, if you know what I mean. Some things I just can't. But now that I know for sure that my co-workers read my blog religiously, I will be extra vigilant not to mention their names or any work issues. I like my job and I don't want to do anything to jeopardize it. This is the last Job I will have in my lifetime. No more job interviews for me.

  6. So are you going to remove the post where you photoshopped the faces of all your co-workers on to the heads of gay porn images?

A comment like that should get everyone reading through all the archives :)

    (just kidding folks :) )

    1. Bob,

"...unless it's to show a bit of my snarky sarcastic side." You mean you have ANOTHER side? Hey, I like your snarky and sarcastic side. ;) You say so well what I often think. I have a hard time keeping up with your postings but they are always a treasure when I read them. You have a talent Bob. You're better than Mike Walker of The National Enquirer. In fact you're better than anyone I'm reading now. Keep on.

  8. I have always loved your posts because you are truthful and you write very well. You do not go out of your way to write anything
hateful, indecent. You are respectful and respected. There is a french expression that describe you very well "je me sens bien dans
ma peau" (I feel good inside my skin) meaning that you are happy with who you are. Don't change and do not hold back because
some co-workers might read your blog.

Thank you very much! You are so kind. After I read "you do not go out of your way to write anything hateful, indecent. You are respectful and respected." Uh oh. I think I have done that but I will be careful in the future.

Yes, you are right Nadege in that I am happy with who I am. And I won't hold back because a co-worker or two might read my blog. Thank you again for your always valued input.

  9. This is an easy one to remember, for I actually have an aunt barbara, who reads my blog.
I write knowing the following are reading < family, patients, the APA secret police, my bosses, and everyone else.
If I am ashamed of it I shan't write it.
And those with no sense of humor can go suck lemons to sweeten their dispositions.
