What to know one of my all time favorite activities?  Reading in bed.

I've been reading in bed for years...............and years.

My bedroom is my oasis.

I retreat from the messy and untidy world and enter my own safe universe.

Reading is one of my all time favorite activities.

At any given time I'm reading between four and six books.

I always have a book in the Reading Room (aka bathroom).

I always have several books going at my bedstand.

I read while I eat in the kitchen.

I read a lot.

I love reading.

  1. Ron- Don't know if you have read it or not, but have you ever checked out Remembering Denny by Calvin Trillin? It's an interesting book and the main character ends up down in Rehoboth Beach. Very tragic but true story.

  2. Liberty,

No, I haven't read "Remembering Denny" by Calvin Trilling. I'm familiar with Calvin Trilling.

Thanks for the tip. I'll add it to my Amazon list.

  3. "A Cheeveresque rumination on unfulfilled potential,"

I just checked the synopsis of "Remembering Denny." The above quote sold me immediately. I am a big fan of John Cheever.

My favorite books and movies are about character studies and how we relate to one another. This is exactly the kind of book I can get into. Thanks again for the tip.

  4. Ron,

This was something else you wrote that I could have written about myself, until perhaps the last few years. After my Graves Disease I have had a lot of vision difficulties. For one, overhead light actually blinds me. I can't see outside without my baseball hat and sometimes indoors if there are harsh overhead lighting I have to wear the hat.

Oddly, though, I need a lot of light to read. It has become very uncomfortable for me to read printed material. I do a lot of my reading in the bathtub. The light in the bathroom just works well for reading. I have the hardest time reading in bed or in the bedroom at all. The light is never right in that room. The best time for me is during the day sitting on the sofa before the bay window as long as it is a nice clear day. Rainy days are as bad as trying to read in the evening or night. I really miss being able to read with ease.

I can read off the computer monitor fine, so I guess I should invest in one of those Nooks or Kindles, but I really like the feel of a real book.

I am reading "The Devil in the White City" right now. Very interesting.

  5. Lar,

It is getting harder for me to read too. I need bright light. I have trouble focusing.

I'm like you, I don't think I could get used to reading a book by Kindle or Nook. I too like the feel of a real book. Just call me old fashioned.

  6. reading in bed is indeed one of life's greatest pleasures.
    I heartily agree.

  7. Amen and AMEN to that comment Spo. In fact, I'm going to bed now to do a little reading. It was a heavy day today, my friend Bob and I visited the Holocaust Museum in Washington. It was overwhelming. I have to go back. One day is not enough.
