Thought for the New Year

A friend sent me this New Year's thought to me this morning in an e-mail. I was wondering what to post for my New Year's blog. My friend's sentiment expresses exactly how I feel this new year and for every day of my life going forward from this first day of 2009.

There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore... and who always will. So, don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future. 'Be kinder than necessary, because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.'

  1. Ron,

That is close to the quote I have at the top of my Blog:

Remember that everyone you meet is afraid of something, loves something and has lost something. -- H. Jackson Brown Jr.

May it be a great year ahead for you on this first day of the rest of your life.

  3. First, thank you for the beautiful card; glad you also use Lawson's cards - they're just the best!

Second, I loved the comment your friend sent to you - absolutely perfect way to remind all of us how we're pretty much in that 'same boat of life'.

Last, the best to you and Bill in 2009; thought you'd like these lyrics (below).

    Burns’ original Scots verse.[1]
    Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind ?
    Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And days o' lang syne ?

    CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my Jo,
    For auld lang syne,
    We’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
    For auld lang syne.
    And surely ye’ll be your pint-stowp !
And surely I’ll be mine !
And we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
    For auld lang syne.

    CHORUS
We twa hae run about the braes,
    And pu’d the gowans fine ;
    But we’ve wander’d mony a weary foot,
    Sin auld lang syne.

    CHORUS
We twa hae paidl’d I the burn,
    Frae morning sun till dine ;
But seas between us braid hae roar’d
    Sin auld lang syne.

    CHORUS
And there’s a hand, my trusty fiere !
    And gie's a hand o’ thine !
    And we’ll tak a right gude-willy waught,
    For auld lang syne.

    Ron,

I'd just like to say I'm looking forward to another year of your blog. Thank you for all your sharing in 2008!

'Be kinder than necessary, because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.'

This is a great quote. More often than I'd like to think I see people with scowls plastered on their face and sometimes I'm tempted to shoot them one of my own right back. This quote is all anyone needs to pass on a smile.

    Happy New Year!

    Jim

  5. Jim,

Again, thank you for your kind comments. I have to remember:
'Be kinder than necessary, because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.'

Sometimes I get frustrated with small things and I have to remember to just be kind to others. Doesn't hurt does it?

Then there is the Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." That's the only New Year's resolution I will ever need. I wish you a very happy new year Jim.
